FORT Irwin, Calif. - In the middle of the Mojave Desert, the producers of MasterChef found the perfect location for their cooking competition. It will be the biggest challenge ever in the Fox TV series' five-year history.

The location was the National Training Center at Fort Irvine, California, a 1,200-square-mile high desert area with 500 very hungry soldiers. Never before has a TV series taken up such a big challenge.

MasterChef is co-produced and hosted by Gordon Ramsay, a colorful and demanding Brit with a huge following in the US along with several other shows. Ramsay stars alongside fellow chefs Joe Bastianich and Graham Elliott.
All three are looking for unique opportunities to push competing cooking teams onto the show. This challenge was difficult; Cooking for 500 guests in a makeshift kitchen built in the middle of the desert.
But first, the Pak competitors were put through real-life training exercises that included tanks, armored personnel carriers, pyrotechnic destruction and machine gun fire from the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment in a routine training scenario.
